attention here besides Biltmore's Montecristi Pinch Front, including The Brisa Gill, a Bailey Panama fedora with a broad, pre-snapped brim and narrow fancy trim. There's also The Elegante, pure Panama perfection from Christys' by way of a finely woven bleached safari style fedora. It's designated a grade 20, which means that the straw used has been split into thinner strands than usual, and that the work-intensive hand weave is virtually seamless.
Vented men's hats always make good warm weather choices, The Sage from Christys' Crown, for example, uses an open weave to catch the breeze. The hat has a West Indies flavor with its brightly colored trim and the braided fedora has an interesting, rough texture. The Vented Burnaby is a fancy new Stetson shantung fedora. In addition to the fancy contrast weave pattern in the crown, this hat features a 2 1/4 inch brim, grosgrain trim and leather sweatband for added wearer comfort. Another new hat this season is a sisal straw fedora from Bailey called The Ventilated Jackson. Above the stingy two inch brim, there's a tasteful multi-toned ribbon and bow with metal studs and Bailey pin.
The fedoras from Stitch, a New York hat maker, are finding their way onto hat racks this summer. Take a look at The Flatbush, a very stingy brim seagrass fedora with bound edge. It's got a bright grosgrain band and bow and is cooly lined with lightweight cotton. Also in sisal, The Queens has a turned down brim that measures two inches. The trim on this stingy brim hat is a red and natural striped grosgrain ribbon and is perfect for summer days.
No list of hats for men is complete without at least a cursory mention of Borsalino and its handwoven dress Panama hat called The Fino. Blocked to perfection by the Italian masters, the fedora is finished with a black grosgrain band and bow, then fitted with a soft grosgrain sweatband. You won't want to miss out on the fedoras from Santana by Carlos Santana, either. The Influence is just such a hat, crafted from palm leaf, with a stingy bound brim. It features a leather trim with an embossed OM, the Hindu symbol of the Absolute, and the sweatband is a comfortable handwoven zarape (or shawl-like fabric) you'll appreciate.
